MIG50

(Completed I Project duration 2013 - 2017)

Within the scope of the G50 project, a coordinated and specified procedure will receive special attention in regards to social and cultural diversity. The differences must be recognized and considered in the implementation of a differentiated procedure.

The MIG50 initiative provides for the following approach:

  • Health days with Turkish language offers (in Wiener Neustadt and Sankt Pölten)
  • Provision of information about healthy nutrition in Turkish
  • Activity and action recommendations in Turkish

Particularly under the aspect of social integration, it is important to address the offers more towards socially disadvantaged, older people. The concentration here is placed on the target group of immigrants with Turkish origin. The experts from ARGEF have a constant dialog with Turkish associations for this. Further cooperation should help with the implementation and realization of the offers.

The project goal is to concentrate more on the previously neglected research field, to adequately and deliberately address the target group of immigrants and to be able to support affected individuals appropriately.

Health without borders

In order to be able to guarantee equal opportunities in the prevention process, 2 health days were initiated with offers in Turkish. The first health day was held on November 29th in Wiener Neustadt (Arena Nova) and the second one on February 21st in St. Pölten (SPORT.ZENTRUM NÖ).

Under the motto “health without borders”, around 300 visitors were able to convince themselves of the rich spectrum of health topics and be informed and receive consultation about precautionary and health promotion measures in their native language.

On this day, the visitors could use the laboratory line from the NÖGKK free of charge and listen to different specialist lectures from experts with Turkish language backgrounds. The areas were deliberately divided into three for the implementation of the health day:

  1. Lectures
  2. Individual consultation options for different specialist fields through experts in Turkish
  3. Laboratory line (provided by NÖGKK)

Activity offers and health days should be prepared so that the target group feels like they are being addressed personally. Building up trust early on with older people through emphatic, native speaking individuals is definitely required for this sensitive field of implementation.

Feedback from the health day

Dr. Ata Kaynar: General practitioner, works at MEN. Was selected, because he is one of the leading experts in Vienna for the topic of diabetes. He held a lecture about this topic, evaluated blood values and took a lot of time for families during the health day.

Kaynar: „The interest and participation of the target group was big. Many immigrants used this event for a health check and for information. This event showed us again how important it is to offer multilingual health and social services to the population.  The voluntary screening of important blood parameters and blood pressure resulted in a few very high values so that these participants were advised to undergo further examinations and change their lifestyle.

It was a lot of fun for me to help here.“
